OUYA The open game console

OUYA is coming

Who would have thought that android would make it to a full gaming console? It did, namely with “Oh Yeah!” OUYA. It’s an android based hackable open game console which will be released in March next year. The makers of OUYA want to bring gaming back to the living room with a total new ‘free’ concept that is a dream for a lot of people. Enough said, let’s have a look at the console itself:

Specifications:

nVidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor
12 Core ULP GeForce GPU
1 GB LPDDR2 RAM
8 GB of internal flash storage
HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth LE 4.0
One USB 2.0
Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”
Wireless controller (one unit bundled) dual-analog sticks

OUYA Controller

As you can see the Ouya is based on an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor which has been designed for mobile devices such as smartphones. nVidia said that the Tegra 3 is capable of console quality graphics and now we will see that it’s possible. OUYA will also have support for stereoscopic 3D gaming. An HDMI output is included for 1080p connectivity. The wireless control pads can be connected via Bluetooth, supporting two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button, and 3″ touchpad control pads which include two analogue sticks, a digital directional pad, eight actoin buttons, and a system button. A touchpad for mouse-like control is also included.

With its low price of $99 (one controller incluced), the OUYA should reach a lot of people all over the world. We look forward to more great news.
